The modern workplace contains a lot of smart software to make people’s work easier and more efficient. But what sometimes remains underexposed in the discussion about workstations is the underlying hardware. Because, especially in larger organisations, the investment in and management of all devices has a major impact on the budget and IT workload. In this blog, we explain how the Device as a Service service from our sister company ARP can help lay a worry-free foundation for your modern workstations.
Devices: the challenges
One of the main challenges in the initial purchase and regular ‘tech refresh’ of devices is their impact on the IT budget. Simply put, the money spent on hardware cannot be used for innovation and digital transformation. In addition, selecting, purchasing and configuring the devices is labour-intensive and therefore costly. The same applies to managing, maintaining and, where necessary, repairing or replacing devices. Giving departments or employees control themselves is also not an option given the risk of shadow devices and security problems.
PQR and ARP: the power of collaboration
Rogier Heijligers, Sales Manager PQR: “PQR is now part of the Bechtle Group. This partnership means that we have gained a lot of IT professionals as colleagues. But this also means that we can offer even more IT services to our customers, including Device as a Service from our sister company ARP. This expands our services around workstations even further and allows us to take over full responsibility for your modern workstations.”
Device as a Service van ARP
Tia Maksud, Proposition Manager at ARP Nederland B.V.: “Device as a Service (DaaS) is a subscription where you can purchase devices such as notebooks, desktops, smartphones and tablets, including the associated lifecycle services, for a fixed amount per workplace per month. ARP has the physical and logistical strength to arrange this for you quickly and efficiently. From procurement, configuration and deployment of the devices to security with mobile device management, software updates, data wiping and maintenance and support: we take the responsibility.”
The benefits of DaaS
Device as a Service offers benefits including:
- IT managers and IT departments get more time for value-added activities by reducing their workload for management, support and IT services.
- Finance managers get more transparency and predictability in budgets instead of the typical large investments in hardware (from CAPEX to OPEX).
- Employees have access to a device that best suits their role and tasks, or their personal preferences. They always work with up-to-date equipment, which ensures few technical complications and a quick ‘time to fix’ if there is an unexpected issue.
- HR managers can take a step towards Employee Choice and attract (young) talent by selecting the right devices. Starting and changing employees immediately have the right device for their work, so can be productive quickly.
Persona’s
The right mix of devices is based on as much customisation for employees as possible, and maximum efficiency through standardisation at company level. To determine this mix for customers when purchasing devices, ARP uses personas. This takes into account, for example, the degree of mobility and the nature of the work; an account manager, for example, has different IT needs than an employee in the finance department. By using personas, employees get a modern workplace that optimally suits their work. PQR also uses personas for the design of digital workstations and our adoption services. When you partner with PQR for your workstations, ARP’s devices can easily be added to your organisation’s personas.
Employee Choice
Tia Maksud: “When organisations combine personas with Employee Choice, they combine customisation with choice. With personas, we categorise employees based on their work needs so that organisations can offer the most appropriate technology for each type of employee. Employee Choice builds on this by giving employees within those personas the freedom to choose from a selection of devices appropriate to their role. This keeps the technology aligned with the organisation’s work requirements while giving employees more control over their work experience, boosting their satisfaction, productivity and creativity.”
The difference between DaaS and leasing
When people think of ‘paying for use rather than ownership’, many people think of financial leasing, and that makes sense. But Device as a Service goes far beyond a purely financial construction. DaaS includes not only leasing, but also a wide range of services that simplify hardware procurement, deployment and management. This includes the configuration, repair, maintenance, replacement and disposal of the devices. At the end of your DaaS contract, we facilitate the return of the devices, offering comprehensive services such as diagnostics, grading, data removal and issuance of corresponding certificates. You can switch to DaaS in phases when some of your devices need to be replaced. If you switch all at once, we can take over your existing hardware through our trade-in service, allowing you to reinvest the residual value.
